Discover How Well You Move: A Functional Mobility Screen for Every Age

Is Your Body Trying to Tell You Something? Don’t Ignore the Signs.

Tight hips. Achy knees. Slouchy posture. Weak core. Whether you're sprinting down a field, hunched over a desk, or simply trying to stay steady on your feet — how well you move can make or break your health.

At Emery Physical Therapy, we’re offering a $29 Functional Mobility Screen that reveals the hidden imbalances, weaknesses, or risks that could be holding you back — or worse, setting you up for injury.

This 20-minute assessment is personalized by age group:

  • Teens – Maximize sports performance and reduce injury risk

  • Adults – Improve posture, flexibility, and daily movement

  • Seniors – Stay steady, mobile, and independent

Let's break down exactly what this powerful test can do for you…

.

TEENS

.

For Teens (13–18): Optimize Athletic Potential & Prevent Injury

This stage of life is full of sports, activity, and growth spurts — which also means a higher risk for injury if imbalances go undetected. Our teen movement screen is designed to:

 - Identify strength and mobility imbalances

 - Evaluate neuromuscular control and coordination

 - Pinpoint areas that need injury prevention strategies

What’s included in the Teen Movement Screen?

  • Y Balance Test: Assesses dynamic balance and limb symmetry — important for sports like soccer, basketball, or dance.

  • Plank Hold: Measures core endurance, a critical factor in preventing back and lower limb injuries.

  • Heel Raise Test (replaces single-leg hop if no space): Evaluates calf strength and stability.

  • Broad Jump Test (as a jump alternative): Looks at explosive power and symmetry — great for identifying performance potential.

  • Active Straight Leg Raise: Tests hamstring flexibility and core coordination.

Adults

.

For Adults (40–65): Improve Posture, Prevent Aches & Move Better

In adulthood, many of us start to notice changes in flexibility, posture, or discomfort from sitting, working, or past injuries. This test is designed to spot the early signs of dysfunction before they become limitations.

 - Identify strength and mobility imbalances

 - Evaluate neuromuscular control and coordination

 - Pinpoint areas that need injury prevention strategies

What’s included in the Adult Movement Screen?

  • Overhead Squat Test: A full-body movement that shows us how your ankles, hips, and shoulders work together.

  • Wall Angel Test: Reveals postural issues and shoulder stiffness.

  • Sit-and-Reach Test: Measures flexibility in your lower back, hamstrings, and calves.

  • Thomas Test: Checks for hip flexor tightness, which often contributes to low back pain.

  • Single Leg Balance Test (Eyes Open/Closed): Tests stability and proprioception, key for avoiding falls and injury.

This is a great option for active adults, weekend warriors, or anyone looking to improve how they move day-to-day.

Seniors

.

For Seniors (65+): Stay Steady, Mobile & Independent

Balance and strength decline naturally with age — but functional assessments can help you stay ahead of that curve. Our senior screen focuses on mobility, balance, and fall prevention.

What’s included in the Senior Movement Screen?

  • Timed Up and Go Test: Measures how quickly you can stand, walk, and sit — a strong indicator of fall risk.
  • 30-Second Sit-to-Stand Test: Evaluates lower body strength and endurance.
  • Four Stage Balance Test: Assesses static balance in progressively challenging positions.
  • Functional Reach Test: Tests how far you can reach forward without losing balance.
  • Single Leg Stance: Checks balance and postural control.

This test helps identify simple ways we can support your mobility, safety, and independence.
